Greetings, Refresh readers!
I hope your summer’s off to a wonderful start. Would you like to see what I’ve been up to?
For some reason, many iPhones don’t load the pictures that accompany these blog posts, and this post is FULL OF REALLY FUN PICTURES. To be sure you can see them all, click HERE to view the post on my website.
First, something that’s been in the works for THREE YEARS and counting — Refresh Your Faith’s sister book — A Word for your Day, 60 Devotions to Refresh Your Mind. Like Refresh Your Faith, this devotional will take you all the way through the Bible, one book at a time, in 66 readings. Instead of an uncommon verse from each book, this book will spotlight an uncommon word from each book of the Bible.
You’ll read devotions exploring spectacular words like Surprise, Glory, Embrace, and Refuge. Each story-driven devotion will make your heart sing and refresh your mind. It will also remind you that every book of the Bible is relevant and powerful. This volume will release in early 2024, but today, I get to show you the cover of A Word for Your Day. Are you ready?
TADA!!!
What do you think? I hope you like it as much as I do. Please let me know what you think in the comments below.
Here are a few more pictures from my spring.
With the launch of Refresh Your Hope in early January, I had many opportunities to share a presentation based on the book called “Share the Hope — 4 Unshakeable Reasons Not to Lose Heart.”
Let me know if you’d like me to bring Share the Hope to your church.
These events opened up a spot on WIS-TV’s “Soda City Live with my favorite news anchor, Dawndy Mercer Plank.
I spent a super-productive week in Alexandria, Virginia hanging out with my daughter and favorite grandpup, Halsey the French bulldog. Can you think of a nicer place to work on the final edits for A Word for Your Day?
Halsey’s an excellent listener and great inspiration. Watch for his story in the next edition of All God’s Creatures, Devotions for Animal Lovers.
In the midst of writing and speaking, we celebrated my dad’s 87th birthday. He usually wears a baseball cap, so we all donned our caps to honor him. Aren’t we cute?
In between Dad’s birthday, we hosted our daughter, son-in-law, and Halsey for a few weeks, celebrated her birthday, then headed off for the funnest week of the year — beach vacay with the grandkids. Every year we snap a picture sitting on the same bench at the beach. The youngest was only a few weeks old in the first picture. Now look at him!
I’ll close with something you’ve probably never seen before — a dog in a dental chair. Many of you know I work my day job as a dental hygienist when I’m not writing devotions. This year our office added Belle, a golden retriever puppy to our staff. As you can see, she does a great job of calming anxious patients and making the rest of us smile 🙂 Now you know now why I love BOTH my jobs.
As we wait for the arrival of A Word for Your Day, I’m hard at work on the next next next devotional. Can’t share the details yet . . . one book at a time. Will you pray for me, that God will speak through my words to magnify His Word. Thank you for being the best group of readers EVER. I’m very blessed to have you in my life.
I’d love to hear what you’re doing this summer. Leave a comment below and join the conversation!

Super-excited to get your next devotional Ms. Lori, and the one after that, and the one after that. Looks as though you’ve had a busy Spring, and am hoping that the coming summer will allow you to slow down just a bit. Belle the dog is such a great idea. I seek out Bubba the chocolate lab, but I suspect he’s larger than some of your patients, so I don’t think he’s cut out for that service task. Congratulations and count on me to be praying for your continued writing success. For His kingdom, ma’am.
Yep, Bubba might be a tad large for our dental chairs, but he could certainly do good work as a greeter 🙂 If y’all ever make it to SC, we’ll put him to work 🙂
Congratulations, Lori. This is great news. I look forward to reading this next book in the Refresh series. I love the picture of the dog. What a great idea to calm nervous patients. Blessings!
Belle can certainly work some magic, that’s for sure. Thanks for your encouragement!
Congratulations, Lori, this is such exciting news! I look forward to watching for its release and enjoying what you teach us.
Belle is adorable! What a great addition to your office. I would want her for company just for her cuteness even if I wasn’t nervous. 🙂
Exactly! Patients are scheduling their appointments based on when Belle (not the doctor) will be in the office! Thanks for your writing encouragement 🙂
Congratulations on your upcoming book, Lori! I look forward to reading it. May God continue to bless you in your writing. (By the way, I’d love to have a golden retriever puppy in my lap at the dentist. Maybe this idea will catch on!)
Thank you, Kim. Pray with me that God will connect this newest book to everyone who needs a centering word from God’s Word to chart the course of their day. And yes Belle is a major attraction, even for our not-so-scared patients 🙂
I look forward to another great devotional.
Thank you, Linda! God’s blessings to you today 🙂
